  1. How did your career start in the gemology field and what are your future goals?

I come from a family with a diamond background, so my experience with gemology started at an early age. I have been always attracted to natural and precious stones, so I dedicated my life to discovering, grading and analyzing diamonds and gemstones. In this regard, I founded World Gemological Institute which not only fulfills my passion, but also brings a lot of incentive to the global jewellery industry. I believe to bring a lot of knowledge to the business with my skills acquired through experience, but also get to learn and discover new things every day. As one stone is never similar to another.

  1. What is the main field of activity of World Gemological Institute

World Gemological Institute (WGI) provides professional, precise and efficient gemological services to the global jewellery industry with our innovative laboratories located in the heart of London’s Diamond District, Hatton Garden and Bond Street. Our mission is to provide accurate gradings to all the items submitted to the lab because it is our responsibility to bring trust among our customers…from all points of view. We value our trade customers, but also treasure the peace of mind of the end consumers by making sure they get what they expect and even more, what they paid for. Because at the end of the day, our written statement marks the entire process of trustworthiness and security for the end customer.

  1. What is the process of jewellery valuation and why is it important to evaluate your items as a private or business enterprise?

The jewellery world has always been a unique and complex field, that is why it is important to valuate your treasures, may it for insurance reasons or sale intentions. Our experts at WGI will make the process easier for both private and trade customers, who will get a written valuation that will act as a legal document for their creations or gemstones. Besides valuation, customers get a full certificate of the item, together with a digital photography, product description and any distinguishing features that will make the item easy to identify. The main reason our customers insure their items is for safety purposes, but there are other reasons which include private sales, personal interest or inheritance.

  1. What do you believe it is that you do that sets you apart from your competitors?

WGI is one of the most renowned gemological laboratory in the UK. We collaborate with customers throughout the world and this is due to our quality services and precise gemological gradings. Our gemologists are GIA graduated and are specialised in diamond, pearls, rough stone and gemstone gradings. We offer a 360 degrees gradings and service to any item that gets in our laboratory and also offer customers a complete experience with all the necessary explanations. Our customers not only get a full certificate of the item, but also gets to understand the nature of the gradings. We have a strong customer service and give maximum value to any client no matter the domain private or trade. Our certificates are internationally recognised and are accessible online from any corner of the world. But what sets us apart from our competitors, are definitely the nature of our gradings – we are able to identify any kind of gemstone, treatment, synthetic stone, origin opinion and many more.

5. What is your commitment to introducing new services and how often do you aim to do this?

WGI is very committed to introduce new services every month.  We are eager to meet new challenges and aim to launch new products and services that compliments either the purchase of a new equipment or create special promotion for every month’s birthstone. Our customers are eager to get our monthly offers and always take advantage of our special launches.

This year, we launched several services that are unique to the gemological industry like: attaching QR code to the certificate (this way clients can scan the QR code and get full access to the online certificate and also 360 video of the stones). Another service was to introduce quick detection of synthetic diamonds – determining a natural gemstone that has been created by Mother Nature or a synthetic stone that has been created in a lab is becoming increasingly difficult and requires special testing. Our Gemologists use advanced equipment to test the stones and distinguish if the stone is natural or synthetic. Also, we help clients to sell quicker their stones by offering a 360 video of their gemstone or diamond – presenting all the beauty of the stone together with potential inclusions or treatments. We also offer origin opinion if possible, for any gemstone submitted to the analysis.

  1. What does WGI Academy stands for and what do you aim to bring to the jewellery community through this educational platform?

WGI Academy offers a unique opportunity to learn basic gemological concepts, developing professional skills for identifying diamonds and precious stones. The intensive 2-day course offers a unique opportunity to acquire and practice knowledge in gemology and gemstone trade, but also successful techniques in the industry. The carefully structured content will allow the participants to successfully identify diamonds and precious stones, to distinguish imitations and synthetic stones and to gain a good understanding of luxury jewellery. WGI Academy aims to provide vital techniques that focus on the transfer of knowledge through practice and exercises, participants gaining a basic knowledge of gemology to meet their future learning needs.
